Notifications

Messages such as "Batch released" or "The export setup has a problem" appear for a few seconds in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If you missed one, or want to read it again, open the notification centre: everything DocView Capture showed you is kept there.

The bell

The bell at the top right, next to the ? help button, shows how many notifications you have not read yet.

  1. Click the bell to see your latest 20 notifications, newest first.
  2. Each one shows an icon for its kind, the message, how long ago it arrived and the screen it was shown on.
  3. Click a message with a link to go to the batch or page it is about. It is marked as read.
  4. Click the blue dot to mark one notification as read, or Mark all read to mark them all.
  5. Click See all notifications to open the Notifications page.

The number on the bell counts unread warnings and errors — the things that need your attention. Success and information messages are kept in the history too, but already marked as read, so they do not raise the number.

New notifications appear in the bell straight away, also when they come from another browser tab or from the server, without reloading the page.

Icon Kind Examples
Green tick Success A batch was released, a setting was saved, a scheduled report was sent
Blue "i" Information A hint or status message
Orange "!" Warning A setup that needs checking, a header sheet that was not recognised
Red triangle Error An action that failed, a scheduled report that was not sent, a batch that stopped with an error

The Notifications page

Open it from See all notifications in the bell, or go to /notifications.

  • Filter by kind, by text (searches the message and the screen it was shown on), by date (From and To) and Unread only, then click Filter. The × button clears the filter.
  • Select notifications with the tick boxes (the box in the heading selects the whole page), then Mark read, Mark unread or Delete.
  • Each row also has its own mark read / unread and delete buttons.
  • Mark all read marks every notification as read.
  • Clear all deletes all of your notifications, after you confirm. This cannot be undone.

The page shows 50 notifications at a time; use the page numbers at the bottom for older ones. If new notifications arrive while the page is open, a bar offers to Show them.

What is kept

  • Every message shown to you on any screen: confirmations, warnings and errors.
  • Scheduled reports you own: whether each timed run was sent or why it was not (see Reports).
  • Batches that stopped with an error: when a batch fails at an automatic step after all retries (see Batch Manager). Who is told is set by an administrator under Settings › Tell about failed batches: by default the person who scanned or uploaded it (creator) and supervisors (everyone allowed to manage batches), so batches from import sources and the REST API reach supervisors too. Role names and user names can be added, separated by commas; an empty setting tells nobody.

The same message shown twice within two seconds is kept once.

Who can see them

Every signed-in user has a notification centre; no permission is needed. You only ever see your own notifications. Administrators cannot read other users' notifications.

How long they are kept

Notifications older than 90 days are deleted automatically. An administrator can change this under Settings with Notification history (days); 0 keeps them for ever. See Settings and Archive and retention.
